Orbit is the first patient safety credit activity accepted by the ABA based on internet point-of-care learning. How do you get started earning ABA-required patient safety credits?

1. Select any plan from Orbit Anesthesiology here.
All of our anesthesiology plans include patient safety credits, and all of the credits you earn in Orbit satisfy your MOCA® 2.0 and state CME requirements as well. If you're at the end of your 10-year MOC period, you'll need 20 patient safety credits right away, so choose your plan accordingly.
2. Install Orbit on your PC, Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
When you sign up, you'll be guided through an installation on Google Chrome (Mac or PC). Be sure you've installed the Orbit extension, and the UBlock Origin extension. The Orbit extension tracks visits to eligible abstracts/articles that you'll claim for CME. UBlock Origin is an ad blocker, which means it suppresses banner advertising on all websites, and you'll need this to earn credit on sites with ads.
If you just installed your Chrome extensions, unhide them by clicking on the puzzle piece logo in the top right of your Chrome browser, and pinning these two extensions:
If you have an iPhone or iPad, download the app to your device from the App Store by clicking here, or searching "Orbit CME" from the App Store. Login with the same username/password you used to sign up for Orbit. The initial screen is just a home page. You can search any website by typing your search into the address bar. The app version was actually designed with feedback from anesthesiologists just like you at MD Anderson, UT Austin, and Stanford.
3. Enter your ABA ID number into your Profile.
This turns on auto-sync from Orbit to the ABA. Any credits you earn in Orbit will auto-sync to the ABA, saving you the trouble of answering a CME-related audit from the ABA in the future.
4. Read patient safety abstracts/articles while logged into Orbit.
Search PubMed, Anesthesiology, A&A, NEJM, or any other peer-reviewed reputable source. Each abstract/article you read earns you 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. For example, try searching "patient safety anesthesiology" in PubMed. Click on an abstract and read it.
Here's a screenshot from this article in PubMed Central (free). You can click on the Orbit extension logo in the top right to verify that you're logged in, and that the Orbit plugin is detecting your article/abstract.
Tip: You don't need to actually click on the Orbit plugin logo with each article to have the article detected - that happens automatically in the background.
5. Redeem articles (refreshed every ~10 min) from your Earn view.
Convert your detected articles into CME by redeeming them from the Earn view. Articles you've read will not instantly appear in your Earn view - they are delivered in batches every 10 minutes, because detected articles need to be verified in detail for eligibility. Here's a screenshot from the Earn view, about 10 minutes after viewing the above patient safety article:
Click on "Redeem" and complete the form.
Important: Select the "Patient Safety (ABA)" tag for articles that relate to patient safety.
When you click "Post", you'll have earned 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for this one abstract/article. Repeat this process until you've earned the credits you need. If you're at the end of your 10-year cycle, you'll need 20 patient safety credits.
6. You're done!
All of your credits auto-sync to the ABA since you entered your ABA ID # into your Profile View, and you were sure to tag your patient safety credits with the Patient Safety (ABA) tag so that they were properly counted towards your patient safety requirements. Because credits you earn in Orbit are directly transmitted to the ABA, you won't need to worry about CME-related audits from the ABA, or saving your certificates. Use the free time however you want - relax and enjoy a quiet evening, or reach for the stars.
