Kansas state CME Requirements

In Kansas, physicians are required to complete 150 hours of credit every 42 months. These credits are divided in 3 categories and have a required spread throughout the reckoning period as follows. 

Category	Details
Category I	Continuing education activity that is presented by a person qualified by practical or academic experience, using any of the following methods: Lecture Panel discussion Workshop Seminar Symposium Other structured, interactive, and formal learning method
Category II	Shall include the following:  Clinical consultations with other healing arts Practitioners that contribute to a Practitioner’s education Participation in activities to review the quality of patient care Instructing healing arts and other health care Practitioners Patient-centered discussions with other health care Practitioners Participating in journal clubs Using searchable electronic databases in connection with patient care activities Using self-instructional materials.
Category III	Online or live continuing education activity that also meets the requirements of either a category I or category II continuing education activity. Must fall under one of the following topics: Acute or chronic pain management Appropriate prescribing of opioids Use of prescription drug monitoring programs

18 months preceding license expiration

30 months preceding license expiration

General (total of all required CME)	100 credits
Category I	40 credits
Category II	No minimum credits required

42 months preceding license expiration
